The second-hand marketplace Members Express Displeasure Regarding Size Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments without notifying every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Response
Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The platform stated the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
The platform has recommended to review their products and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Updates
Before the change, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Accounts
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she explained.
Manual Updates
A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Marketplace Information
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
